Meet the Author Night (2024)
Meet the Author fundraiser for Pollard LibraryLOWELL >> The Pollard Memorial Library Foundation held its 18th annual Meet the Author fundraiser Thursday, May 9, at the library on Merrimack Street. Cambridge-based author Allegra Goodman, bestselling author of “Sam,” “Kaaterskill Falls” and the “Cookbook Collector,” among other works, discussed the inspiration for the ideas behind her books to a room full of almost 100 people.
Books were provided for sale by the Lowell Book Company, Mill No. 5, 250 Jackson St.The PML Foundation raises funds to supplement the budget of Lowell’s public library to offer resources, services and programs to the community.“
Between sponsors and tickets sales, we probably raised upwards of $20,000,” Chair of the PML Foundation Jamie O’Hearn said.
“We use these programs to also showcase the library itself, to bring people that may not come down here otherwise to see the beautiful resource we have in the city.”For more information on the library, call 978-674-4120 or visit lowelllibrary.org.

LOWELL >> In recognition of the 180th anniversary of the Pollard Memorial Library, and in celebration of National Library Week, Somong Rattanayong, director of constituent services for U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan, presented PML Director Bridget Cooley, staff and trustees with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition on April 10.

“The value of the Library in our community is immeasurable and the contributions of your Staff, Trustee, Foundation, and Friends will have a lasting and positive impact in the Greater Lowell Community and beyond,” said Rattanayong, who also spoke to the importance of the library in her life as an immigrant to the United States.

Cooley presented a lecture on the history of Lowell’s library and noted the support of staff, the PML Trustees, the PML Foundation and the Friends of the PML in the success of the library’s long mission serving the community.
​
The theme for National Library Week, which ran Sunday, April 7 through Saturday, April 13, was “Ready, Set, Library!” and PML Trustees Chair Donna Richards, said libraries are there for residents at every opportunity.

“No matter where you find yourself on the roadmap through life’s journey,” she said “the Pollard Memorial Library is there for you … .”
